Russia Innovation Collaborative Participates in World Russia Forum
by Daniel Satinsky

Tomsk seminar

Daniel Satinsky was a panelist at the World Russia Forum, an annual conference in Washington, D.C. bringing together business leaders, government officials, public policy scholars and experts on the relationship between the United States and Russia.

The U.S.-Russia Business Council organized a panel on the From Silicon Valley to Skolkovo, moderated by Council President Edward Verona. The other panelists included Dmitry Akhanov, President, Rusnano USA, Clay Lowery, Vice President, International Government Affairs, CISCO Systems and Oleg Svintsitski, Senior Vice President, Siguler Guff & Company.

The World Russia Forum is organized by Edward Lozansky, President of the American University in Moscow. It is known primarily as a venue for political, rather than economic discussions. The luncheon on March 29 was a flashpoint for a spirited political back and forth set of charges and counter-charges between Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Relations and Richard Perle, Resident Fellow, American Enterprise Institute and former Assistant Secretary of Defense. The large audience, which was almost equally divided between Russians and Americans, witnessed an unusually candid and direct exchange between the two men. Kosachev noted that the current head of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee (his American counterpart) had refused to meet with him and challenged U.S. policy makers to move beyond Cold War concepts. Perle stated that Kosachevs aggressive tone and refusal to admit Russian mistakes left no room for compromise and improved relations. As the luncheon ended, each stood their ground.
