Host Families Needed - LEAP

Unique Hosting Opportunity
for American Families

American Councils: ACTR/ACCELS, a non-profit organization committed to international education in Eurasia, Southern Europe, and Afghanistan, is looking for host families for young professionals from Georgia, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine. The program is called:

LEAP: Legislative Education and Practice Program

Now in its fourth year, this U.S.-Government internship program is sponsored by the U.S. State Department, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.   The project targets young professionals who are pursuing careers in government or intend to do so.

Program Facts:

  • Hosting commitment: September 4-December 14, 2009 (tentative)
  • Interns will work with local state legislatures or non-profits.
  • During the program, interns will live in home stays and will be supported by American Councils staff.
  • Upon their return home, interns will administer projects and conduct workshops in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy and U.S. government contractors working in the region.
  • Interns receive a roundtrip ticket from for their home country, medical insurance, a small monthly stipend, and an allowance for public transportation.

Host Family Requirements:

  • Must be able to provide room and board 
  • Interest in hosting
  • Accessibility to public transportation 
  • Host “parents” at least 30 years of age
