USRCCNE Attends Reception
in Honor of Second Bicentennial of US-Russia Relations
The Russian Ambassador to the U.S., Yury V. Ushakov, held a gala reception on January in honor of the bicentennial of Russian - U.S. diplomatic relations. The formal program included addresses by Ambassador Ushakov, Ambassador Nicholas Burns, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and Dr. James Billington, the Librarian of Congress since 1987. Their remarks were followed by a musical program of both Russian and U.S. performers. There is a strong Massachusetts connection to this bicentennial by virtue of the fact that the first Ambassador from the U.S. was John Quincy Adams, as was mentioned by all of the speakers. The reception was attended by several hundred people, Russians and Americans, mainly from the Washington, DC area.
Our Chamber was represented at the reception by our President Daniel Satinsky, who presented a letter from Chamber Board member, State Senator Stan Rosenberg. The letter congratulated the Ambassador on the occasion of the reception and invited him to participate in commemorating the bicentennial in the fall in Massachusetts.
