"Consumer spending rises in Russia"
A rise in consumer spending in Russia is due both to rising personal incomes and a consumer lending boom, analysts say.
So, consumer spending in January-August 2003 totaled RUR 3.8 trillion, or $122.5bn, which is 7.9 percent more than in the same period last year, in real terms. In particular, the consumption of non-food goods increased the most - by 9.3 percent, while the consumption of food products rose slower - by 7.3 percent.
