Based on the novel by Boris Pasternak, adapted for the screen by Robert Bolt, and directed by David Lean, Doctor Zhivago is one of the grandest epic films of all time. It tells the story of a Russian physician and poet who, although married to another, falls in love with a political activist's wife who defiantly returns his love.  Throughout the turmoil of the First World War and then the October Revolution, the lovers are repeatedly torn apart and reunited as they struggle to survive the twists of fate and fortune. Starring Omar Sharif, Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger, Alec Guinness, Tom Courtenay, Siobhan McKenna, Ralph Richardson, and Rita Tushingham.

Romance! Revolution! Betrayal! Survival! Reunion!  Plus snow, sleighs, sweeping vistas and that hauntingly romantic balalaika song that everyone gets stuck in their head but can’t remember the name of.  (It’s called “Lara’s Theme.”)  Don’t miss this ultimate epic movie experience with 250 other nostalgic fans!!!

Doors open at 12:15, program begins at 1:00. A 20-minute intermission is included in the 4-hour run time. The Strand offers a full-service grill menu, including beer and wine. Early arrival is suggested if you plan to order food. Complimentary Russian tea will be provided by the Museum, and gourmet Russian cookies by the wonderful local bakery BellaCakes.

The Historic Strand Theatre Movie House and Grille is a Clinton Landmark and one of Central Massachusetts' best kept secrets. One of the oldest existing movie theatres in the area, The Strand Theatre was built in 1924 and operated as a vaudeville theater and movie house until the late 1970's. The Strand was then completely renovated and re-opened in March of 1995.  Today, The Strand is locally owned and operated, and offers the quaintness, quality, and hometown friendliness of movie houses of yesteryear, making “going to the movies” the memorable experience it was meant to be.
