The Skolkovo Foundation has engaged MIT to mentor the creation of an entirely new university as part of the new innovation suburb of Moscow. The university was founded late last year as the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (“SkTech”) and has already begun to implement significant new activities and programs that will build to the opening of the new physical campus in 2014. SkTech has the mission of pioneering new forms of science and engineering education and of making a significant contribution to the transformation of Russia into a knowledge-based economy. Alexei Sitnikov, Vice President and Executive Director for Academic Development of SkTech, will speak about the programs already underway, along with the near and far-term influence of SkTech on transformative economic processes in Russia. Alexei Sitnikov joined Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skolkovo Tech) in October of 2011 as Vice President of Administration and Development. Areas of Alexei’s responsibilities include establishment of the administrative structure within the Institute, formulation and execution of the financial model and the budget, creation and development of the Endowment as well as establishment of wide partnership networks for Skolkovo Tech, communications, public outreach and annual fundraising.
Alexei transferred to this position from the post of Director for International Development at Skolkovo Foundation where he lead the efforts to establish the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. In his position at the Foundation Alexei also created the international network of partners from among a number of international academic institutions, non- profit organizations and foundations.
Alexei Sitnikov graduated from the Department of History (with Honors) of Yaroslavl State University in 1995. In 1996 he received a Master of Political Science (with distinction) from the Central European University in Budapest. In 1997 Alexei was awarded the Master’s Degree in Political Science from Stanford University. In 2001 Alexei completed the PhD program at the Department of Political Science at Stanford University with specialization in comparative politics, international relations and organizational theory. From 1999 to 2005 Alexei served as Program Director for Russia at Stanford Institute for International Studies. Since 2003, Vice-President of Global Technology Symposium at Stanford University. Since 2009, Adviser to the Governor of the Kirov region. From 2005 to 2010 - Vice President for Operations and Development at the New Economic School in Moscow.
Alexei also serves as Advisor to the Governor of Kirov Region in Russia. Since 2011 Mr. Sitnikov is a Member of the Board of Directors at the Russian Venture Company (RVC).
