with Anton Ivanov
Chief Justice, RF Supreme Arbitrazh Court
April 3, 2009
Chief Justice Ivanov will discuss the current evolution of Russia's legal system and how this development will affect the business environment in Russia. His visit to the United States is particularly timely, given some recent decisions by the Court in the area of intellectual property protection and Chief Justice Ivanov's removal of several corrupt judges as part of his efforts to reform the judiciary.
Following the efforts of his former law school classmate, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Chief Justice Ivanov has made the fight against corruption a major component of his work as the head of the Supreme Arbitrazh Court.
Chief Justice Ivanov was appointed as Chairman of the Supreme Arbitrazh Court in 2005 after having served as First Deputy General Director of Gazprom Media for one year. Prior to that position, he was Assistant Professor of civil law at St. Petersburg University from 1999 to 2003 and was Head of the St. Petersburg Justice Department from 1997 to 1999.
